The implants fractured in vitro show ductile fractures associated in some cases with «cleavage». Structural defects were observed in all the implants fractured in vivo, and some in vitro. All the specimens examined were screwed implants.

Abstract

Fractures of dental implants, through relatively rare, are of considerable pratical interest because of the serious problems they can cause both to clinics and patients. The authors present a fractographic study under the Mes of five Implants fractured spontaneously in vivo and ten implants fractured in vrtro with static stress at three pornts. Their surface analysis of the implants fractured in vivo revealed the presence of three intragranular fractures of the "cleavage" type, associated wrth plastic-elastic deformations. and two intergranular fractures of the «rock candy» type, without plastic deformation, which generally arise in corroded and brittle metals. The implants fractured in vitro show ductile fractures associated in some cases with «cleavage». Structural defects were observed in all the implants fractured in vivo, and some in vitro. All the specimens examined were screwed implants.
