The architecture which was realized in Italy during the fascist period shows characters that make a new use difficult, especially as regards programme changes and the new flexibility required by contemporary needs. We want to check the results of the introduction in buildings of new uses, facing some awkward operations already carried out in Pescara, a town whose unification with Castellammare Adriatico and election to province in 1927 was celebrated by new architectures: former “casa del Balilla”; former summer holiday camp “Stella Maris”; former “Aurum”.We want to estimate the most compatible transformation perspectives in some relevant examples about which the municipality will soon question: former rowing centre “La Pescarina”; former “ONMI”; the Civic Centre next to the river Pescara. The new roles of the examined “monuments” must be analyzed and their capacity to adhere to contemporary symbolic meanings.
