The scenario is that of contributing to build a "knowledge economy", i.e. a dimension in which the intangible and innovative component plays a key role to initiate and sustain an economic conversion focused on sustainability, on the regeneration of primary resources, on cooperation and integration of all components of the chain of knowledge and innovation. In this context of internationalization of research, a reference is made to the partnerships developed between the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP) and the Dipartimento di Tecnologie per l'Ambiente Costruito (DiTAC) of the Faculty of Architecture of Pescara that, from the academic year 2003/2004 to date, have resulted in an important series of initiatives which aim to define and test tools for the management and maintenance of urban infrastructure, by implementing, in collaboration with the productive and social world, the exchange of knowledge as a condition to promote training and research quality for an effective and excellent qualification of human resources.
