This article addresses the question of gender in relation to pedagogical studies and educational practice through a reconsideration of central issues regarding the differences between the sexes. The common thread of the argument will be the concern that the differences characterising male and female realities are not given a correct or appropriate evaluation in places of formal education. By freeing the terms of the question from both old and new ideological and stereotypical interpretations, the article attempts to qualify the scientific reflections on the subject by expanding on pedagogical features to include recent research results in other fields of inquiry. The aim is to offer a re-examination of educational processes in terms of the real needs of men and women today, and consequently to encourage the potential of both by re- assessing their distinct values, different styles of learning and ways of expressing their emotions and forming relationships and eliminating the notorious prohibitions of which girls have been particular victims in history, cultural history and Western education.
