The aim of this essay is to examine how Sylvia Townsend Warner explores in her novel the interconnectedness of women and nature showing, through Laura, the protagonist, how the countryside may represent an alternative to the city, and to the subordination to family regarded as the fulcrum of control and power. Therefore, the author acts as a provocative catalyst for a discussion related both to the feminine role and to promote an “ecotopian vision”.

Abstract

The aim of this essay is to examine how Sylvia Townsend Warner explores in her novel the interconnectedness of women and nature showing, through Laura, the protagonist, how the countryside may represent an alternative to the city, and to the subordination to family regarded as the fulcrum of control and power. Therefore, the author acts as a provocative catalyst for a discussion related both to the feminine role and to promote an “ecotopian vision”.
