Nella scheda viene esaminato un disegno inedito conservato nel fondo “Architettura Militare” nella Biblioteca Antica dell’Archivio di Stato di Torino. Il disegno rappresenta il porto di Malta sotto assedio da parte delle forze ottomane, e dall’esame di alcuni particolari nonché dal raffronto con altre analoghe rappresentazioni lo si è potuto ragionevolmente datare fra il settembre 1565 e il gennaio 1566. Vengono esaminati in dettaglio la morfologia dei luoghi, lo stato degli insediamenti e delle opere fortificatorie, da cui si deduce che l’ignoto estensore possedeva dell’evento rappresentato una buona informazione, se non una conoscenza di prima mano. A hitherto unpublished drawing from the collection “Architettura Militare” in the Turin State archives depicts the celebrated siege of Malta by the Turkish army and fleet (the so-called Great Siege). On the basis of some details, and by comparison with other similar sources, it can be reasonably dated between September 1565 and January 1566. The layout of the ground and the disposition of the existing settlements and fortifications are rendered with considerable accuracy, showing that the unknown draftsman possessed a good information, if not a first-hand knowledge, of the event.
