Epileptic phenotypes in autoimmune encephalitis: from acute symptomatic seizures to autoimmune-associated epilepsy
Objective: To describe the clinical and paraclinical findings, treatment options and long-term outcomes in autoimmune encephalitis (AE), with a close look to epilepsy. Methods: In this retrospective observational cohort study, we enrolled patients with new-onset seizures in the context of AE. We compared clinical and paraclinical findings in patients with and without evidence of antibodies. Results: Overall, 263 patients (138 females; median age 55 years, range 4-86) were followed up for a me...
Questionnaire-based assessment of sleep disorders in an adult population of Tuberous Sclerosis Complex
Background and objective: Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) is a rare systemic disease with a high prevalence of sleep disorders (SD), although they are still largely under-recognized. The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of SD in adult patients with TSC, and to evaluate the relationship between sleep, epilepsy, and TSC associated neuropsychiatric disorders (TAND). Materials and methods: We administered Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) an...
The liquidity and trading activity effects of acquisition payment methods: Evidence from the announcements of private firms' acquisitions
We investigate how the liquidity and trading activity effects of the announcement of the acquisition of private targets vary by payment method. We find significant increases in trading activity around acquisition announcement dates irrespective of the payment method used; however, fluctuations are lower for acquisitions financed by earnouts and cash. Similarly, the stocks of acquirers using cash and earnouts are also less affected by a general loss of liquidity that accompanies announcements....
Outcomes of Industry–University Collaboration in Open Innovation: An Exploratory Investigation of Their Antecedents’ Impact Based on a PLS-SEM and Soft Computing Approach
The outcomes of industry–university collaboration, in an open innovation context, may be of great support to firms, in their response to the challenges of today’s highly competitive environment. However, there is no empirical evidence on how these outcomes are influenced by their antecedents. Aiming to fill this gap, a research model to investigate the impact of the major antecedents, identified in the literature as motives, barriers and knowledge transfer channels on the beneficial outcomes ...
Use of lung ultrasound in school-aged children with wheezing
BackgroundThere is limited information available on fast and safe bedside tools that could help clinicians establish whether the pathological process underlying cases of wheezing is due to asthmatic exacerbation, asthmatic bronchitis, or pneumonia. The study's aim was to characterize Lung Ultrasound (LUS) in school-aged children with wheezing and evaluate its use for their follow-up treatment. Materials and methodsWe carried out a cross-sectional study involving 68 consecutive outpatients (me...
