This publication collects and organizes scientific contributions developed on the occasion of the meeting/debate "O Espaço da Escola", held in January 2007 in Porto, for the presentation of the work developed for the Municipalities of Porto and Matosinhos by the Centre for Studies of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (CEFA- UP), in a collaboration with the Dipartimento di Tecnologie per l'Ambiente Costruito (DiTAC) of the Faculty of Architecture of Pescara. In the context of this meeting, the two schools presented the results of the research which resulted from the need of defining the contents of the "Education Chart" for the two Municipalities, in terms of "Physical and Functional Characterizationof the Network”, explaining the process and interpretation criteria applied, and confronting them with scholars, experts and actors in the design and management of spaces for education.
