Early detection of breast cancer and medical thermal infrared imaging share a common long history. Along the years, the real capability of thermal infrared imaging to detect and properly classify breast cancer has been widely discussed and often negatively criticized. After the contradictory results obtained during the 70’s and 80’s, thermal infrared imaging has taken a great advantage from the technological advancement in the field of the infrared imaging devices along the 90’s. This advancement together with a better understanding of the procedures and methods in the thermal imaging of the human body may depict a new scenario and new possibilities. This chapter presents the review of the recent advancements in the field of breast thermal infrared imaging, with special reference to the objective performance of such method according to the criteria of the good scientific practice.
