The intervention on existing schools constitutes a very wide field for project action because it needs a variety of scales of observation and action, knowledge and skills, as well as important technical and organizational resources. The multiplicity of these factors is due to the fact that school buildings were built mainly during the last century and, therefore, include old and modern artefacts. In fact, the school network as a whole, in each urban reality, is an important indication of material culture and of the value system of the social organizations to which it belongs, accumulating signs of changing times and recording the cultural, economic and technological development.

Abstract
