In writing this paper we are interested in better understanding the concept of “limited rationality” as introduced by Herbert A. Simon with particular reference to the fields of economics and social psychology. Researches on decision making and problem solving have paid increasing attention to this subject, since a substantial part of human decisions are taken under uncertainty conditions and in situations in which the context appears to play an important role and, frequently, a critical influential role. In the present analysis we will invoke the kernel notion of context that can be properly extended to include the way in which preferences are presented or designed. We conclude with some observations concerning Popper’s “rationality principle.”
