If, from a poststructuralist perspective, any individual text relies on the existence of all other texts – that a novel or a poem cannot exist in isolation, and part of its production of meaning relies on the fact that other novels and poems exist, then Tenebre sul Congo by Luigi Guarnieri relies on Heart of Darkness in a very complex and original way. It is an interesting example of intertextual displacement which is also dynamic since it involves dialogically different forms of communication. Guarnieri manages to create a lively dialogism of intertextual allusions which acts as tropes by diverting the attention from a text towards another with the result of extending the textual borders beyond the same literary tradition.
