The Mission of Chieti University in Cyrenaica is working since 1999 on the problems of ‘Hellenization’ and ‘Romanization’ of the Cyrenaican world through different markers, as urbanization of Libyan villages, cohabitation of Greco-Roman and Libyan features in the rupestrian extramural Sanctuaries, hybridism in sculpture and architecture. Some villages are clear examples of Libyan rural settlements, strongly Hellenized and variously reacting to the Roman impact. Rupestrian sanctuaries and necropolis are showing interesting and vivacious effects of the cultural syncretism.
