The focus of my contribution is a new study of human pedagogical archetypes which traces the origins of the Western model of education. Nowadays, in which the category of uncertainty plays a pivotal role, I think that this theme has a great relevance. I will argue that the figure of Odysseus is both an element through which Homer suggests a twofold paradigm of education, as well as an element by means of which it is possible to rebuild a model of paideia typical of European history. Adorno and Horkheimer, for example, consider Odysseus as an archetype of the modern bourgeois individual, and a representation of Western rationality that presents a fundamental ambiguity: on the one hand he is a symbol of emancipation, and on the other a symbol of domination. As I will show, although Homer in the Odyssey uses the protagonist to emphasize the emergence of a new and alternative educational method - compared to the previous mechanistic one – Odysseus still remains within a rational framework. Therefore, Odysseus personifies a very important departure from the structure of rational pedagogical models, even though he is still anchored to the rules of a rational-instrumental logic.

Abstract
Therefore, Odysseus personifies a very important departure from the structure of rational pedagogical models, even though he is still anchored to the rules of a rational-instrumental logic.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
