Within the continuous urban changes - due to the transformations that contemporary society asks us to reinterpret in anti-crisis key - we can recognize in the industrial abandoned or dismantle areas, one of the recovery, reorganization and regeneration occasions, for the growth of cities and the construction of a durable collective well-being (in continuity with the provisions of the National Plan for the City - "Grow Italy" - Legislative Decree no. 83/2012). In the logic of the redefinition of the productive structures the industrial areas, over time experienced by the cities and their inhabitants, can become strategic enzymes for the regeneration processes of parts of the city. Small and large cities have to accept more and more the challenge of reconfiguring the abandoned industrial districts, parts of a polycentric urban system, as land stocks for the collective interest and the definition of development interventions and urban saturation, designed and compensated in a unitary thought of the territory. The urgent need to upgrade and enhance the heritage involves the introduction of a different framework and new strategic objectives, related to the new awareness on the issues of urban ecology, saving and decentralized energy production.
