Abstract

During the XX century, because of unstable and difficult socio-political conditions in the Arab world, much of this geographical area has experienced exile literature (adab al-manfà). In Iraq, for example, during the years of ᐀ƒ††¢ Ꮱusayn regime many intellectuals were forced to leave their homeland, taking refuge in Europe and America in search of safety and security: Muᒒsin al-ƒŽÄ belongs to this category. After a long wandering between many Arab countries, he settled in Madrid, where he still lives and works. This paper aims to analyze his writing of political and social exposé, through the examination of his novels, some of which included in the prestigious IPAF long-list. The leitmotif of his works is the condemnation of dictatorships and wars, the theme of emigration and of honour. In particular, the concept of honour is often presented as strongly anachronistic and inappropriate value, since applied to a social context, like Iraqi one, portrayed by the author in his daily violence that, from the beginning of the new millennium, is plunging the country in the blood in the indifference of international public opinion
