Libya today is strongly aware of the ‘different typologies of heritage’ which need appropriate valorization, because very different are the geographical and cultural contexts, as well as the ethnic and tribal entities. However, in the meantime, also the hazards for cultural heritage are becoming particularly problematic, both for an unplanned and unsustainable urban encroachment, as also for looting and vandalism. The long continuity of use of sites has determined not only a cultural stratification, but also the coexistence of monuments, archaeological remains and architectonic features, very different for entity and nature. The paper is presenting Cyrene and Ptolemais as sample cases.

Abstract
Libya today is strongly aware of the ‘different typologies of heritage’ which need appropriate valorization, because very different are the geographical and cultural contexts, as well as the ethnic and tribal entities. However, in the meantime, also the hazards for cultural heritage are becoming particularly problematic, both for an unplanned and unsustainable urban encroachment, as also for looting and vandalism. The long continuity of use of sites has determined not only a cultural stratification, but also the coexistence of monuments, archaeological remains and architectonic features, very different for entity and nature. The paper is presenting Cyrene and Ptolemais as sample cases.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
