The paper tries to clarify the model which explains animal motion in Aristotle’s De anima and De motu animalium. The roles of sense-perception, thought, phantasìa, pleasure, pain, and òrexis are outlined. The author proposes to identify òrexis with the union of pleasure (or pain) to its reference, through phantasìa, to some cause in the environment.
