The essay reconstructs some aspects of Franco Rodano’s thought, in an attempt to highlight his effort to inhabit both his Catholic and Communist affiliations as a dual and biunivocal critique of both traditions. A critique that is expressed in the action of unlocking and activating the internal truths inherent in both belongings – experienced by Rodano within a dynamic and restless “double”, but never dialectical – whose logic and epistemology is analysed. Particular attention is paid to the concept of ideal causation, Rodano’s theoretical attempt to safeguard, through a critique of historical materialism that is expressed as its rescue, the concepts of revolution and continuity of historical processuality.
