"Castel di Sangro. Technologies and Projects" presents a comprehensive research and design exploration focused on the territory of Alto Sangro, with particular emphasis on the town of Castel di Sangro. Through a multidisciplinary approach, the book examines the intersection of cultural heritage, landscape, and technological innovation, proposing an integrated vision of urban regeneration and territorial enhancement. The volume brings together theoretical contributions and design applications that bridge architecture, urban planning, digital technologies, and environmental sustainability. Case studies, operational strategies, and innovative tools are analyzed to outline future scenarios for a fragile yet highly promising mountain region. This publication is intended for scholars, professionals, and policymakers interested in the transformation of small towns, offering replicable models and insights for context-sensitive and forward-thinking design practices.

Abstract

The volume represents a significant contribution to the redevelopment of small towns, addressing the theme of historic heritage regeneration through a strongly interdisciplinary and sustainability-oriented approach. It provides a detailed account of the activities and outcomes of an international workshop held in July 2024 at the Convent of Santa Maria Maddalena in Castel di Sangro, a Franciscan complex that today hosts the Civic Museum Aufidenate. What makes the volume particularly compelling is the participation of authors from foreign universities, which lends the work an international scope and fosters a fruitful dialogue between different design cultures. The working group, composed of both Italian and international students and professors, developed concrete proposals for the regeneration of the site through solutions aimed at enhancing the functional and cultural value of the monastic complex. Special attention is given to the relationship between the convent and its surrounding landscape context. The volume stands out for its clarity of exposition, richness of sources, and the balance it strikes between theoretical insight and design application. The inclusion of images, diagrams, and digital models—particularly the HBIM developed by the students—enhances the reading experience and demonstrates the effectiveness of the experiential and educational approach adopted.
