The History of universities and higher education in Italy has been greatly revised since the 1990s. There has been an examination of the questions of Modern and Contemporary ages, an increase in sources and most importantly, a significant boost has been given to the history of individual universities. In this scenario the Centre for Studies and Documentation on the History of the University of Macerata was founded in 1993 and dedicated in 2010 to the memory of Professor Sandro Serangeli. This paper expressly aims to analyze the relevant contribution that the Centre has given to the enhancement of the historical-educational heritage of the University of Macerata and to point out the productive opportunities provided by the approach of Public History.
