This publication is based on the study days held on November 8-9, 2024, at Palazzo Cenci Bolognetti in Rome, during which we examined the connection between the research on urban form and architectural design. Nevertheless, this volume does not publish the proceedings of that event; instead, it proposes an independent and, to some extent, organic essay collection, reflecting on the discussions held therein, particularly from the standpoint of the authors’ shared focus on urban morphology. In the recent years, this term has become complex, referring to various research fields and presenting different opinions on the role of evidence- based architectural design. By no coincidence we chose the title “Urban Form and Design” rather than “Urban Morphology and Design”, in order to take, as architects, a firm stand, and placing the form itself (not the study of form) at the centre of the debate on the construction of a new design philosophy. Abstract
