Stand-by

Contemporary territories often produce spaces that don’t have – or not have anymore – functions or specific conformations, underlined by a sort of indeterminacy that reifies itself through their being there, physically, acting as a citadel that doesn’t belong, or if it does it’s in an different way in respect to canonical programs or more conventional to spatial configurations. This issue aims to enquiry some of those spaces, through the exploration of the stand-by condition characterizing places and spaces, landscapes and territories. A condition often analysed by exclusion and that the contributions in the publication itself allowed to broadly explore. The editing process, in fact, has debated the possibilities to define stand-by spaces and what they are made of, becoming the process in itself a way to enquiry some of them through this interpretative hypothesis framework. Apart from the contribution coming from the single authors, the issue has carried on a discourse through images to shape and therefore comprehend stand-by condition (that the visual contribution tries partially to give back).
