The problem of estimating the parameters in non-linear mechanical and structural systems with non-Gaussian random excitation is addressed. A spectral based identification technique is developed for the case where the response is measurable but the excitation is unknown. It is demonstrated that higher order spectral quantities, in combination with ordinary second order spectra, can be utilized to identify the presence of non-linearity in the equation of motion and of non-Gaussianity in the excitation. The method is illustrated through application to some simulation results for a Duffing oscillator excited by a Poisson pulse process.

Abstract
The problem of estimating the parameters in non-linear mechanical and structural systems with non-Gaussian random excitation is addressed. A spectral based identification technique is developed for the case where the response is measurable but the excitation is unknown. It is demonstrated that higher order spectral quantities, in combination with ordinary second order spectra, can be utilized to identify the presence of non-linearity in the equation of motion and of non-Gaussianity in the excitation. The method is illustrated through application to some simulation results for a Duffing oscillator excited by a Poisson pulse process.File in questo prodotto:
