In September 2003 in Italy legislation about new types of employment contracts has been passed; this article critically discusses the part of it dealing with the employment of disabled people. Compared with previous (1999) legislation, the rights of disabled people have become weaker, as new rules about placements threaten the existing principle of compulsory hiring. Particularly dangerous appears the institution of agents contracting our employees to firms as, if applied to disabled people as well, it squashes the chances of employment for the most severely disabled people. the article also discusses discrimination against disabled people, both by employers and by work colleagues, and advocates more legislative concern to evaluate job potentials and to the difficulties faced at work. Lack of clarity, and inconsistencies within the legislation itself are pointed out. An example of good practice is described.

Abstract
An example of good practice is described.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
