The maintenance and safety integration into City of Porto school management has suggested the adoption of a systemic vision of school asset and its relationships, included the human resources indispensable to maintain system requirements: indeed, the engaged human resource organisation reliability is not secondary to building system reliability, maintainability and safety. The objective of the supposed model is to minimise the risks related to school asset using and maintenance, and to improve the school asset quality by optimising the resource use (resources are thought of as human and material for management and maintenance) and by strengthening the cybernetic capabilities of management and maintenance technical system. In such approach, dependability becomes a requirement-objective within a managing activity intended as a dynamic, developing process, useful to incorporate quality during the planning phase and to maintain the required standards during the overall predicted life cycle by means of an approach integrating school infrastructure asset reliability, maintainability and safety. Planning the system management and maintenance consisted in a process where three inter-dependent micro-phases were defined: pre-project, objective assessment, design. It is here given a short summary of its content and methodology.
