How does the individuals’ knowledge production predict their social network structure within knowledge-intensive organizations? This is the main research question we want to provider answer in the present paper by exploring advice networks in a community of hospital physicians working within the Italian NHS. We demonstrate that high levels of knowledge developed by individuals are positively related to their network size. At the same time, we found that the degree of knowledge development and heterogeneity of knowledge possess by physicians are respectively positively and negatively related to the degree of redundancy featuring their ego-networks.
