Field investigation on granular soils are commonly used in geotechnical design. Cone penetration test (CPT) with its continuous measurements provides, among others, useful information on soil resistance. Nevertheless, CPT parameters, that is cone tip resistance qc and sleeve friction fs, show values affected by numerous sources of uncertainties which should be investigated in order to improve the soil characterization. Accordingly statistical tools can be profitably employed to rationally handle the random sources of variability and uncertainty in layer detection and to estimate the variability structure of each homogeneous soil deposit. The case studied concerns statistical treatment of the CPTs performed in granular soils located on the right side of Sarno river, where a sanitary fittings founded on pile group has been designed. The type of piles used are Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) which are affected by the erratic dimensions of diameters due to the CFA installation technique. These uncertainties are taken into account in addition to the inherent variability of foundation soils in order to make a reliability-based design of pile group foundation.

Abstract
These uncertainties are taken into account in addition to the inherent variability of foundation soils in order to make a reliability-based design of pile group foundation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
