Traditional residential Turkish buildings often have timber framed structures. This building technique is survived in many parts of the historical peninsula of Istanbul. This paper deals with the idea of extending the use of timber framed structures to the rehabilitation and seismic retrofitting of masonry or reinforced concrete buildings. Considering also the technological innovation for the contemporary life and environment needs satisfaction linked to the reuse of existing buildings.
