The tourist development of agro-cultural landscapes: a geographical interpretation.- The agro-cultural landscape descends from the oldest of the landscapes, the agrarian one, that man built to satisfy his basic needs and to supply agricultural activity which constituted the main base of ancient economy. Today, after a period of heavy marginalization, the agro-cultural landscape shows up as the result of a new agricultural philosophy associated with the image of a differentiated countryside which, in a post-productivist perspective, confers agriculture a multi-functional role to promote territorial development. Under this respect, the tourist development of the binomium product (typical)-landscape (typical) appears as a viable and desirable objective in terms of a concrete renewal of the territorial capital. In this regard, an integrated approach among all stakeholders is essential for the governance of an agro-cultural landscape which is capable of replicating itself in terms of values and identity and of fostering an inimitable - and, therefore, competitive - tourist offer.
