My essay is part of a research project that aims to rethink the issue of human education through a systemic and scientific approach, which reconsiders the educational system of ancient Greece in a novel way. The final objective is to unveil the limits of the fallacy that only attributes to the classical period the fullness of form and content, the construction of the original Greek ideal made of balance, harmony, perfect beauty, and eternal form, thus denying the precursory role of the pre-classical era. From a pedagogical-scientific perspective, the figures of archaic heroes, particularly those of Achilles and Odysseus, still “talk” to us. Their voices resound with an original note that can enlighten the question of heroic training and enrich the pages of the history of both ancient education and of the paradigm that has laid the foundations for the emergence of a Western educational model.
