This issue focuses on thwentieth-century architectural drawing for the master town plan of the Spa town of Chianciano (Si), a complex heritage with unique spatial qualities designed by Mario Marchi (1900-1996), architect and painter of the Roman school. The direct observation of several original drawings – housed in the Mario Marchi Holding in the Central State Archives – allows to retrace the genesis and evolution of the complex creativity of a Master: he ranged from town planning to architecture; he tackled different kinds of graphic scales, representation methods as well as pictorial tecniques. The main out come of the study was to identify certain aspects of the identity of this complex architectural and evironmental system, creating certain sequences captured by walking through and surveying these areas. A sort of graphic monitoring is aimed at establishing an enforceable system for this architectural and evironmental heritage, a system that could be used for any joint conservation project and wich could be part of a complex mosaic of dynamic evolving relationships.
