The paper describes the cyclic behaviour in the small to medium strain range of very soft clay sediments of the Italian Adriatic continental shelf. The study focuses on the shear modulus and damping ratio determined by means of cyclic simple shear tests. A new type of simple shear device for small-strain testing was employed for the laboratory investigation. The dependence of shear modulus and damping ratio on a number of factors such as strain amplitude, vertical consolidation stress and stress history is analysed and discussed.

Abstract
The paper describes the cyclic behaviour in the small to medium strain range of very soft clay sediments of the Italian Adriatic continental shelf. The study focuses on the shear modulus and damping ratio determined by means of cyclic simple shear tests. A new type of simple shear device for small-strain testing was employed for the laboratory investigation. The dependence of shear modulus and damping ratio on a number of factors such as strain amplitude, vertical consolidation stress and stress history is analysed and discussed.File in questo prodotto:
