Background. Is very important to create psycho-diagnostical instruments able to detect and measure PTSD in large populations of victims of civil or military disasters. For several reasons (economic, clinical and professional), self administered scales seem to be able in collecting data rapidly. Methods. 102 persons victim of a civil disaster in Rome were tested with our self administered questionnaire. Results. The results were low sensitivity (57%) and high specificity (88%). Conclusions. The self administrated DSM-IV criteria shaped inventory could be useful as a second step of a screening procedure in combination with other validated self-report instrument with higher sensitivity.
