New structural survey and kinematic analysis carried out on the Paleocene to Quaternary succession outcropping in the Tremiti Islands, allow to define the deformational history and timing of this part of the Adriatic foreland. The reconstructed sequence or events, widely unexpected on the base of the previous works, consists from the younger to the older of: a) Middle Pliocene to Quaternary extensional faulting; b) very Late Miocene folding; c) Middle Miocene normal faulting; d) Middle Eocene to Langhian wrench deformation (right-lateral on E-W trending faults, left-lateral on NW-SE trending faults). In order to ascertain if the described polyphasic history is the result of repeated compression-extension pulses or, on the contrary, the expression of an heterogeneous deformation pattern, in the frame of a persistent wrenching strain field, our study is integrated with the available seismic lines interpretations and compared with the structural setting of other parts of the Adriatic foreland, affected by tertiary tectonics.

Abstract
In order to ascertain if the described polyphasic history is the result of repeated compression-extension pulses or, on the contrary, the expression of an heterogeneous deformation pattern, in the frame of a persistent wrenching strain field, our study is integrated with the available seismic lines interpretations and compared with the structural setting of other parts of the Adriatic foreland, affected by tertiary tectonics.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
