This paper focuses on the non-linear response of Nepalese reinforced concrete buildings constructed according to Mandatory Rules of Thumb (MRT-NBC 205:1994). To this purpose, push-over analyses are carried out on FEM models of representative buildings conceived with MRT, also accounting for the presence/absence of masonry infills –with or without openings- and several possibility of modelling approaches. On the one hand, the comparison between the resulting ideal bilinear push-over curves and the corresponding spectral demands, carried out according to the European N2 method, allows to evaluate the safety of the buildings under an earthquake characterized by a reasonable probability of occurrence. On the other hand, the obtained results give the possibility of appraising the influence of masonry infills on the seismic behaviour of the studied structures.
