Abstract

The essay observes how the railways will improve the life and structures of a peasant society deeply rooted on its lands. By constructing them, the main purpose is to seek first and foremost the possibility of direct access to inland waterways, and bring this precious combustile that is coal, from the carbon dioxide basin of SaintÉtienne, to the Rhône, or to the Loire. In front of the incredible speed of this new means of locomotion everything is transformed into an abstract and poetic vision, and the poets are under the charm of the railway landscapes.
