The aim of this paper is to explain the most philosophical significant objections of modern thought to the concept of mercy. They were elaborated by Marx, Nietzsche and Sartre, who criticised mercy on the metaphysical, anthropological and ethical field. In particular, this analysis is intended to show, on the one hand, that it is impossible to remove definitively the reference to mercy and, on the other hand, that the criticism to mercy is the best demonstration of its normative authorship of thought tout court
