We focus on a group of firms that share the same norms, beliefs and values to analyse how bonding social capital (i.e. internal links within the group) and bridging social capital (i.e. links with actors outside the group) affect innovation based on content analysis of qualitative data. We find that bonding and bridging social capital affect different phases of the innovation process: bonding social capital supports the implementation of innovation and bridging social capital favours the initial phase of idea generation. We conclude that innovation results from the interplay between different types of social capital and that each type contributes in different and unique ways to the final outcome.

Abstract
We focus on a group of firms that share the same norms, beliefs and values to analyse how bonding social capital (i.e. internal links within the group) and bridging social capital (i.e. links with actors outside the group) affect innovation based on content analysis of qualitative data. We find that bonding and bridging social capital affect different phases of the innovation process: bonding social capital supports the implementation of innovation and bridging social capital favours the initial phase of idea generation. We conclude that innovation results from the interplay between different types of social capital and that each type contributes in different and unique ways to the final outcome.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
