Abstract

At the beginning of 1900, in Germany, the neo-Kantians philosophers of Baden’s School and Marburger’s School start to read Plato’s thought through the lenses of Kant’s philosophy. In this cultural context, Ernest Cassirer in 1923 represents the first philosophical confirmation, after the philological illustration by Wilamowitz-Moellendorff, for the demonstration of the authenticity of Plato’s Seventh Letter. Placing this work in the last Plato’s philosophy, he puts it on a continuum with the Dialogues, expecially the Cratylus and the Phaedo, drawing an interpretation of the theory of knowledge, as it occurs in the Letter, which is focused on the role of the means of the knowledge and the knowledge itself - that is also important for Cassirer’s philosophy
