This contribution compares the results of two different pile predictions performed for the Araquari experimental testing site (Brazil). The predictions are focused on the use of the geotechnical parameters calculated from in situ tests, such as cone penetration tests for making prediction on the ultimate bearing capacity and the final settlement of a single pile of 1 m diameter and 24 m length into sandy soils. Results from a deterministic approach (joined to engineering judgment through which designing values of resistances are chosen based on past professional experiences) and a statistical one that estimated the pile resistance by using mean values and averaged spatial standard deviation drawn from CPTu tip resistance profile are discussed. They both underestimated the pile resistance along depth although the deterministic approach provided a less conservative prediction.

Abstract
They both underestimated the pile resistance along depth although the deterministic approach provided a less conservative prediction.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
