Traduire Benedetto Croce en France, un parcours semé d’embûches

The aim of this paper is to investigate Benedetto Croce’s critical fortune in France throughout the analysis of his translated essay La filosofia del linguaggio -- essay that the Neapolitan philosopher included in Saggi di estetica. In order to define whether the French translation given by Gilles Tiberghien contributed to the circulation of Croce’s work in France, a contrastive analysis has been made on some segments of the source text and target text. The method and the interpretation offered by the contrastive analysis seem to be functional for the appraisal and description of every interlinguistic passage relating to literary, paraliterary, critical, technical and scientific works.
