Presbyosmia can be defined as the reduction of olfactory capacities produced by tissue aging. In neurodegenerative diseases for over 90% of cases there are always olfactory dysfunctions. The loss of smell is a sign of aging and of neurodegenerative processes. In humans there are three olfactory phenotypes called juvenile, mature and elderly. Each of them develops a different phenotype. Olfaction does not diminish with age, but the reduction of our sense of smell is a symptom of aging. All diagnostic tools are finally evaluated to obtain a diagnosis of the alteration of the sense of smell.
