The Courtesan under the press(-ure) · The case-study of the first edition of The Book of Courtesan by Baldassar Castiglione is particularly intersting by a typophilological point of view. The huge amount of information about the manuscript named L, which supposedly was the printer’s copy sent to the Aldine press, and the 4000 variants between L and Ad, that was the first edition of the book, printed in 1528, allows us to do a deeper examination through the lens of typophilology. In the end we propose the hypothesis of the existence of another lost manuscript, the one Castiglione gave to Flaminio before leaving to Spain, which could be used by Valier as the printer’s copy to be printed. Finally Valier had to read the proofs also looking at L, to be sure to adopt the last corrections by the author.

Abstract
Finally Valier had to read the proofs also looking at L, to be sure to adopt the last corrections by the author.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
