The Metamorphoses have significantly inspired the fine arts for the amount of information contained in the work and for the vivid character of the Ovidian representations. However, painting and sculpture, unlike literature, do not reproduce movement. How did the fine arts depict Ovid's metamorphoses, often characterized by the description of the evolving of forms? The paper proposes a classification of the different modes of representation in painting and sculpture of the metamorphic myths present in Ovid's poem.
