In the convent of Santa Maria Nuova, near San Gregorio da Sassola, a wooden sculpture called "Madonna della Noce" is preserved. The current appearance of the work derives from a restoration carried out in 1864, attested by an inscription. The comparison with some statues kept in the area, in particular with the Madonna of Santa Maria in Valle in Subiaco, however, suggests that the original nucleus of the work may date back to the first half of the 13th century.

Abstract

In the convent of Santa Maria Nuova, near San Gregorio da Sassola, a wooden sculpture called "Madonna della Noce" is preserved. The current appearance of the work derives from a restoration carried out in 1864, attested by an inscription. The comparison with some statues kept in the area, in particular with the Madonna of Santa Maria in Valle in Subiaco, however, suggests that the original nucleus of the work may date back to the first half of the 13th century.
