Finestre parlanti. A Proposito di alcune finestre con iscrizione da chiese abruzzesi di età medievale

The contribution provides a first contextualisation of the use of inscriptions found on the windows of some important churches in Abruzzo (S. Maria Assunta di Bominaco, S. Pietro ad Oratorium, S. Clemente al Vomano, S. Sisto a L'Aquila) . The inscriptions were made at the time of the construction of the buildings and were placed on windows located in the apses or close to the presbyterial area. In such positions they were in close relationship with the services conducted inside the edifices and were clearly aimed at enhancing the functional and symbolic value of windows as means of transmitting the light. A first examination of the attestations outside the regional context has highlighted some degree of concentration of this phenomenon mostly related to monastic contexts between the eleventh and twelfth centuries.
