This contribution is intended as a reflection on the subject of initial education curricula for secondary school teachers. Specifically, it traces the cultural matrices of the Italian political-institutional debate and proposes, in an era of reform, some lines for future teachers' training. At the same time, some considerations arise from this reflection, especially on the possible scientific reasons for the failures, including institutional ones, to be sought in the framing of the science called upon to deal with education, schooling, and training, namely pedagogy. The latter was born and has always been designed mainly for primary school and, therefore, it is not able to step up and take on the training needs of the secondary school along with its actors and recipients.
