The journey of Lamberto Loria in Papua New Guinea, and specifically in the English part of the island – the British New Guinea – remained largely unknown until today due to the lack of published materials. In fact, if the letters describing the first stay (1888-1890) survived, very little was known of the second voyage (1891- 1897). Today, thanks to the recent examination, reorganization and transcription of the diaries and the field notes of the Italian ethnographer, it is possible to reconstruct almost completely the stages of his journey. The paths he followed in the seven years he spent in British New Guinea are here reconstructed and meticulously verified on contemporary maps and charts for the matching of the names of the places.
