This paper proposes a corpus-informed rationale for the introduction of complex prepositions within the syllabus of an e-learning course of Spanish for the specialised field of Architecture and Construction (AC). After considering the contextual factors characterising the pedagogic setting (as set forth in the SEAH Project), the study compares the frequency of complex prepositions in three corpora: the specialised corpus ES_SEAH; the reference web corpus esTenTen 2018; the learner corpus CAES. Frequency and semantic considerations allow the identification of a list of the complex prepositions typical of the language of AC corresponding to three communicative macro-functions, which are central to communication in AC (describing space or an object in space, narrating the history of a project, exposing ideas and concepts). Concluding remarks reflect on advantages and disadvantages of using corpora for curriculum design.
